A key concept about education and support for gastric bypass surgery is that health professionals (surgeons, dieticians, etc.) who have not had bariatric surgery can only teach based on medical science and experience. There are many important aspects of preparing for and recovering from surgery that are best gathered from someone else who’s been there. So New Dimensions offers a forum for those who are considering or navigating the process of surgery and those who have undergone bariatric surgery to relate to one another. At our support group meetings, at least one New Dimensions surgeon attends and most meetings feature a guest speaker on a topic of interest to the group.
