Dr. Lloyd Stegemann completed his medical school training at the University of Texas in Houston, TX. He then entered into general surgery residency training at the University of Texas in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Stegemann became interested in bariatric surgery early on in his residency training and gained invaluable knowledge during this time. After completing residency, Dr. Stegemann joined the New Dimensions team and has focused his practice on weight loss surgery.
Since joining the New Dimensions team, Dr. Stegemann has performed over 600 weight loss operations as the primary surgeon and has assisted in hundreds more. Dr. Stegemann understands that there is no operation that is perfect for everyone so he offers a variety of bariatric operations including gastric bypass, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomies, and revision operations. Almost all of the operations performed by Dr. Stegemann are done laparoscopically. Dr. Stegemann serves as a proctor for Ethicon Endosurgery, traveling around the state of Texas teaching other surgeons the laparoscopic gastric bypass operation and was recently selected to be one of the first proctors in the US to be trained on the new Realize adjustable gastric band.
Dr. Stegemann has been instrumental in organizing the practice of bariatric surgery in the state of Texas. He organized the first meeting of bariatric surgeons in the state which led to the creation of the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons (TABS). Dr. Stegemann currently serves as President of TABS. The organization, under the leadership of Dr. Stegemann, has seen its membership and influence steadily grow. This year the group was able to introduce a bill into the Texas Legislature to improve patient access to this life saving surgery. Dr. Stegemann is also an active committee member in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and is on the Advisory Board of the Obesity Action Coalition.
Dr. Stegemann is a sought after speaker by patients and professionals on the topic of obesity, weight loss surgery, and surgical aftercare. He has developed a post-operative program called The Prescription For Success After Weight Loss Surgery© which has helped hundreds of patient’s achieve long-term success after surgery. This program addresses the dietary, physical and emotional changes that a patient must make to maintain their weight loss. A book about this program is underway and is expected to be published soon.
Outside of the clinical setting, Dr. Stegemann enjoys spending time with his children, playing basketball, collecting antique microscopes, and traveling.
